RESERVE BASE
Reserves include high volatile metallurgical coal from the Upper Cedar Grove, Lower Cedar Grove and Alma seams. Since Hampden's development in 1987, over 20 million clean tons have been mined, leaving 15 million tons of clean recoverable coal remaining. This area is currently being drilled to determine the minability of some other reserve areas within Hampden's control.

COAL PREPARATION PLANT
Coal is transported from the mine via truck or belt conveyor to the preparation plant. This plant has a capacity of 700 raw tons per hour. It is equipped with a heavy media vessel, heavy media cyclones, and froth flotation. Clean coal is dewatered by mechanical centrifugal dryers.

CLEAN COAL STORAGE
Clean coal is stockpiled at the preparation plant prior to transport to the loadout facility in one of two 10,000 ton storage areas. Up to four grades of coal can be stored at the plant without comingling.

From the preparation plant, coal is transported by truck to one of two clean coal loadout and storage areas for coal to be shipped on the Norfolk Southern railroad. Coal is stacked via one of four 2,500 tons per hour stacking tubes and stacked into one of four storage areas, two with capacity of 15,000 tons and two with capacity of 10,000 tons.

Alternatively, coal is transported by truck to a loadout on the CSXT system where 10,000 tons can be stored prior to loading into railcars.

MINE INFORMATION

TYPE OF MINING
Three underground drift mines are operated by contract miners. They are Daniels Branch #1, Daniels Branch #2, and Rockhouse Development.

The three mines operate in the Upper and Lower Cedar Grove seam, the Williamson Seam, and the #2 Gas seam and work two shifts, five or six days per week.

All mines utilize conventional room and pillar mining with continuous mining machines. In general, super sections are utilized to attain maximum production. Coal is transported to the surface via belt conveyor and either conveyed or trucked to the coal preparation plant.

AMOUNT OF RESERVES
15,000,000 recoverable high volatile coking coal reserves. 30,000,000 additional reserves which may be processed at Hampden from the Rockhouse reserve area.
